YogaLife.World is a global yoga and wellness discovery platform: a multilingual directory of yoga retreats, studios, teacher trainings, wellness venues, private instructors, and workshops around the world.
It started as a standard Directify directory built on the events template. From there, I wanted to see how far I could take it — combining Directify with custom design, API integrations, an SEO and indexing strategy, multilingual pages, affiliate monetization, and a PWA experience for mobile users.
The full build, customization, and launch took less than one month. In around four months, YogaLife.World has generated approximately 120,000 page views and 39,000 visitors from more than 110 countries, plus its first affiliate revenue.
This case study shows how Directify can be used not just to launch a simple directory, but as the foundation for a scalable directory business.
The Challenge
The goal was never a basic list of yoga businesses. I wanted a global directory serving several audiences at once:
- Visitors searching for retreats, studios, teachers, trainings, and wellness experiences
- Yoga businesses — teachers, retreat hosts, studios, venues — looking for more visibility
- Search engines and AI discovery tools that need clean, structured, indexable pages
- Paying customers who benefit from featured listings, promotion plans, and advertising packages
- Affiliate partners in the yoga, wellness, retreat, and travel space
The main challenge was scale. A multilingual directory becomes complex very quickly: listings, categories, locations, translated pages, landing pages, blog posts, affiliate links, map-based discovery, and indexing workflows all need a clear structure from day one.
I needed a platform that would let me launch quickly, keep the database organized, customize the user experience, and connect with other tools. Directify gave me that foundation — and from there, I customized heavily.
The Solution
I used Directify as the core directory engine and expanded it into a more advanced platform.
The Directify API was central to this. It let me connect YogaLife.World with external tools and workflows — data processing, indexing automation, SEO processes, and monetization systems — while Directify handled the directory itself.
The result still runs on Directify as the base, but feels like a custom-built global discovery platform.
What Was Customized
The customization came in layers:
- Design & UX — full redesign with custom CSS and JavaScript, a custom navbar, and an improved experience across mobile, tablet, and desktop
- Structure & navigation — clear category organization, location-based discovery, map-based listing exploration, and improved search
- Content & pages — custom landing pages, pricing and promotion pages, legal pages, a blog, and a custom 404 page
- Multilingual & SEO — translated page structure with language switching, SEO optimizations, redirects, and clean URL structure
- Automation & integrations — Directify API workflows, Google Indexing API and IndexNow submissions, and data automation feeding the Google Sheets database
- Monetization & mobile — payment structure, affiliate link structure, and a PWA setup for Android and iOS
The idea was to keep the speed and flexibility of Directify, but add the strategy, automation, and customization a serious directory business needs.
Category Structure and User Navigation
A major part of YogaLife.World is how the directory is organized around categories, locations, and user intent.
On a global platform, users should not have to browse blindly through thousands of listings. Someone looking for a teacher training in Bali or a studio in Lisbon needs to get there in a few clicks. Clear categories and organized listing types let visitors explore specific areas of interest and move through the platform with intention.
This makes the directory easier to use — and stronger from an SEO perspective, because each category supports more focused discovery.
Map-Based Discovery
For a global directory, the map is one of the most valuable features, because location is often the biggest factor in the user's decision.
Someone looking for a retreat or studio doesn't want to open random listings without knowing where they are. The map lets users visually explore listings by geography, compare nearby options, and jump straight to the ones that matter.
For YogaLife.World, the map is not just a visual element. It turns the directory from a static list into a real discovery tool — and it's one of the most appreciated parts of the platform.
SEO, Traffic, and Multilingual Growth
The directory is built for organic discovery: people searching for yoga retreats, studios, teacher trainings, and wellness experiences around the world.
In around four months, the platform has generated approximately 120,000 page views and 39,000 visitors from more than 110 countries. Traffic comes from Google, Bing, Yandex, AI discovery tools, Meta and Instagram, direct visits, and referrals.
For a multilingual directory, indexing and page structure are critical. YogaLife.World includes multiple language versions, plus listing, category, location, landing, and blog pages — all indexable.
To manage this at scale, I built my own indexing automation using the Google Indexing API and the IndexNow API (which covers Bing, Yandex, and other supported engines). This workflow can submit up to around 10,000 pages per day for discovery and crawling.
Instead of waiting passively for search engines to find everything, YogaLife.World pushes new and updated pages to them. As more listings get indexed and ranked in different languages, the organic traffic potential keeps compounding.
Data Automation and Directory Filling
One of the biggest problems with new directories is that they launch empty. An empty directory has little value for users, search engines, or potential paying customers.
To solve this, I created workflows that collect public listing data from allowed sources, clean and enrich it, improve descriptions, organize categories, and prepare everything for the Google Sheets database connected to Directify. These workflows can run once or on a schedule.
Better data creates a better user experience, better SEO potential, and stronger value for the businesses listed on the platform — from day one.
PWA for Android and iOS
YogaLife.World is also configured as a Progressive Web App: users can browse it in the browser or install it on their devices in an app-like format.
Most directory users discover listings from mobile, so the PWA setup makes the platform feel more accessible and more practical exactly where the traffic is.
Monetization Strategy
YogaLife.World was designed as a monetizable asset, not a static list of links. It runs on two revenue models:
1. Direct subscriptions and advertising. Retreat hosts, studios, venues, and organizers can pay for promoted listings, featured placements, and advertising inside the directory. This also creates room for marketing upsells — listing optimization, SEO support, promotional campaigns, and visibility packages.
2. Affiliate revenue. Some listings and pages include affiliate links to relevant yoga, wellness, retreat, and travel partners. In the first month alone, these links generated more than $500 in direct affiliate revenue — and this keeps growing as more listings get indexed across languages.
The important point: YogaLife.World is not dependent on a single revenue stream. It attracts traffic through SEO, provides value to users, and creates paid opportunities for both listed businesses and affiliate partners.
Outreach Workflow
I also built outreach campaigns connected to the listings. The workflow is simple:
- Find relevant businesses, hosts, studios, or organizers
- Show them their listing
- Start a conversation
- Offer improvements, featured visibility, or promotional packages
This turns the directory into both a discovery platform and a sales channel — a lead generation asset, a niche media property, and a paid listing business at the same time.
Results
In summary, YogaLife.World was built, customized, and launched in under a month, and in around four months reached:
- ~120,000 page views and ~39,000 visitors from 110+ countries
- More than $500 in affiliate revenue in the first month
- A multilingual SEO structure with automated indexing (up to ~10,000 pages submitted per day)
- Map-based discovery and a structured category system
- A PWA experience for Android and iOS
- API-connected automation using the Directify API
- A subscription, advertising, upsell, and affiliate monetization structure
"Directify gave me the foundation to launch quickly, but the real value was being able to customize and build around it. YogaLife.World became much more than a simple directory — it became the foundation for a scalable discovery platform."
Why This Matters for Other Directory Builders
The same approach works in any niche where visibility, trust, location, and leads matter: travel and experiences, local businesses, real estate, wellness practitioners, professional services, job boards, SaaS and AI tools, courses, city guides, B2B suppliers, and more.
If you're looking for a starting point, browse Directify's directory templates or explore directory ideas for inspiration.
The main lesson from YogaLife.World: Directify is a fast launch foundation, but with the right strategy it becomes something much more — a scalable SEO asset, a discovery platform, and a real business with multiple monetization channels.
