Location Search

Find what's close, not just what's listed. Visitors type a postcode, city or address, or press Near me, choose a radius, and see only the listings inside it, nearest first, with the distance shown on every card. It turns any directory into a "near me" search without a map plugin or custom code.

How it works

• Type a place or use the browser — the search bar accepts a postcode, a town, a street address or a "Near me" click that asks the browser for the visitor's location. Nothing is stored; the location lives in the page URL, so results can be shared and bookmarked.
• Pick a radius — 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 kilometres or miles, or "Any distance" to simply sort the whole directory by proximity.
• Nearest first, distance on every card — results are ordered by how far away they are, and each card shows the distance in the unit you choose.
• Stacks with your other filters — keyword search, categories, tags and custom-field filters still apply on top, so "plumbers within 10 miles of SW1A 1AA" is one search.

Key Features

• Country bias — set a two-letter country code and postcodes or town names are only looked up inside that country, so a search for "Springfield" stays where your directory is.
• Every template, every page — the bar appears on the homepage, on category pages and in browse views on all templates, and matches your theme automatically.
• Automatic geocoding — listings need coordinates to take part. Switching the feature on geocodes your existing listings from their addresses, and new ones are picked up by the hourly run.
• Editable texts — the placeholder, button labels, "Any distance" option and the not-found message can all be changed, so it works in any language.
• Built-in protection — lookups are cached and rate limited, so bots cannot exhaust your geocoding quota.

How to Set Up

1. Open Settings → General → Listing and find Interactive Map → Location Search. Switch it on.
2. Choose kilometres or miles, a default radius and, optionally, your country code.
3. Make sure your listings have addresses. Coordinates are filled in automatically; you can also set latitude and longitude on a listing by hand.
